With more than 25 years experience in the industry and as vice president of engineering, Tim Burke heads the development teams for the No. 1 Linux enterprise operating system, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and the Fedora Project open source distribution. He has led the delivery of Red Hat Enterprise Linux since its initial release.

Responsible for the comprehensive Red Hat Enterprise Linux product portfolio, Burke directs several software development teams, including development for the Red Hat Linux kernel (storage, file-system, hardware enablement, and process management), core operating system utilities, desktop, development tools (languages, libraries, debuggers), security, and virtualization. Burke thrives on the challenge of finding the intersection of customer needs while simultaneously promoting and fostering open source collaborative development, as is evident in the development of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and beyond.

Prior to joining Red Hat, Burke held senior engineering positions focusing on kernel development and clustering infrastructure in commercial UNIX offerings. He holds a master's degree in computer engineering from Boston University and a bachelor's degree in computer engineering from University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
